Simon Budden is Senior Instructor to the club and is currently graded at 5th Dan. His martial arts experience dates back to the early 1970's, when he studied Judo and was a member of the BJA Junior Squad. Since this time, although concentrating his studies on Shotokan Karate, Simon has also experienced several other martial arts including, Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate, Tomiki and Yoshikan Aikido, Western Boxing, and Wing Chun Kung Fu. Simon is a former international competitor, was Captain of the SEKU Team and has also been a member of the England All Styles Karate Squad. In addition Simon has worked with members of the Armed forces and for private security companies. In 1992, Simon decided that it was necessary to pursue his teaching career on a fulltime basis as his commitments were growing. Now, in addition to being the senior instructor at the Winchester dojo he now runs Southampton. As well as his two private clubs, Simon also teaches at Winchester College, The Bedales School, St Swithuns Girls School and Southampton University. Since 1989 Simon has been studying Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate under his teacher Sensei George Andrews 7th Dan I.O.G.K.F. (See www.otgka.co.uk). In the autumn of 2003 Sensei George invited Simon and his dojo's to become part of O.T.G.K.A. Simon considered this to be a great honour and accepted the opportunity to pursue his desire to practise solely Goju ryu Karate. All his dojo are now part of O.T.G.K.A. and are practicing the Okinawan Goju ryu style of Karate. Simon is also a licenced Master Practitioner of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programing) and Licenced Hypnotic (see www.stateofmindnlp.co.uk), qualified Shiatsu tutor. He also trains in the English Longbow.
